The Badersee has attracted visitors in search of relaxation from near and far since the nineteenth century.
In 1871, the Grainau Charity Councillor Glonn bought the Badersee and decided to turn it into a holiday destination.
According to the legend: King Ludwing II dropped a likeness of Lola Montez into the lake near the granite monolith.
Some sources deny that this ever happened - but the mermaid is still there for anyone to see.
Of all the villages in the Bavarian Alps, Grainau has what is perhaps the most beautiful location, at the base of the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany, and only 5 kilometres southwest of the well-known resort city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
